Smíchov

Despite its lesser fame among Prague visitors, Smíchov is a very easily accessible and interesting neighbourhood. It borders with Malá Strana and the lush Kinsky gardens of Petřín, and is reachable from the opposite Vltava bank – for instance, via Jirásek bridge by the Dancing House.

Back in the 19th century, its cityscape was mostly defined by factory chimneys, but today you can observe various architectural styles on your walk through Smíchov, such as Baroque, neo-Renaissance and Art Nouveau.

However, its most famous spots are closely connected with the industrial roots of the district. These are the Anděl – the commercial and entertainment center on the former site of Ringhoffer factory, and, of course, the original Staropramen brewery welcoming visitors with guided tours and beer tastings.

Here, you will find numerous attractive options for shopping and leisure, including the MeetFactory (founded by the notorious Prague-born artist David Černý), the Jazz Dock – a venue for open-air music events, and the Folklore Garden – one of the best places to discover Czech cuisine, traditions and hospitality.
