In case you want a little break from European culture, the Náprstek museum will be a perfect place to visit. It displays objects illustrating life of various indigenous tribes from Africa, America, Australia and Oceania.
These fascinating exhibits come from a rich collection of Vojta Náprstek - the well-known Czech explorer, industrial leader and patron of arts, who lived in the 19th century. His destiny was affected by the overthrow of revolution in Prague, as Mr. Náprstek had to go to the USA seeking refuge from political persecution.
Upon returning to his homeland, he established a foundation that would help share cultural aspects of other nations, which made Náprstek’s family brewery in Betlémské Square very popular among the Czech intelligentsia.
Explore the mysterious native cultures from all over the world via this vibrant exhibition of artifacts. Here you can see aboriginal costumes and masks, tribal weapons and shields, feathered objects, jewellery, coins and even canoes brought from North America. From Eskimoes to African nations, you can compare the everyday way of life of different tribes, that mainly consisted in hunting, fishing and gathering.
The ground floor also features a library and halls for temporary displays.
